Email marketing design winner: Sephora new website introduction with animation

This week’s email marketing design winner is Sephora’s new website launch intro email, which includes a nice animation. The animation slides in the black bars with the new website features. Here’s the new design (not animated):

This email has several nifty features. One of them is the inclusion top right of a link to a mobile version, which -really- is a mobile version: (more…)

Toy Story 3 in email: it’s animated allright

Upon posting by Anna Yeaman from Stylecampaign, I couldn’t resist on putting this in the spotlight. It’s a beautifully designed Disney Pixar promotion of Toy Story 3 dvd / Blu-ray including an animation as subtle trailer. Here’s the full email:

The reason I love this is that the animation itself is not too big in resolution or intrusive: it’s a true addition to the email and very well made. The file size is big though: no less than 2MB, which results in about 100kb/sec of data throughput. In modern broadband internet times that’s not a lot, but it will take some time for people who do not have access to that. The placement of the animation is excellent: just below the regular image header to the left, which will still fall in many peoples preview pane limits (as long as they download images, of course). Great stuff.

Hermès: a fruitful animation

Hermès, the famous French fashion house, delighted me recently with a beautiful subtly animated email. The graphic inside is animated like this:

This design is very much in line with previous animated and non-animated emails including a Halloween one:

The above designs follow through on the website (example of the UK version webshop here), so talk about giving the receiver a nice and consistent experience troughout the used media: this is it.

Holland America Line – subtle animation enriches email

In their most recent email, cruise ship company Holland America Line puts in a very subtle animation to draw attention. The 3-day sale has more info to offer: below the sale line the line alternates between the separate destinations and the book now option (now that’s a cta). The simpel yet beautiful execution of this gif animation makes it non-obtrusive yet draws attention: the number 1 thing an email marketer wants with their email campaigns. Below is the email, with the right column cut off so it could fit here:

3-DAY SALE Happening Now, with fares from $399*!
Find Cruises Destinations Onboard our Ships Virtual Tours & Videos Special Offers
Holland America Line: 3-day sale - FARES FROM $399*

Such subtleness puts the email apart from many others that are non-animated or animated in an obtrusive way. Hat tip to Holland America email designers for this design and animation implementation.

Coca-Cola brings animated bubbles

Already being one of the best known brand names worldwide, how can you do your marketing even better? The designers at Coca-Cola have come up with a delightful animated email.

Here’s a static screenshot:

However, what you don’t see in the above screen, is that the bubbles of the o from CokeUSA are animated:

It’s lovely, isn’t it? Just that little bit of extra to give the email that little sparkle that makes it pop! Whoever came up with this at the Coca-Cola design/marketing department to spruce up their email marketing gets my vote.
